Behind Sparrow Studio
Sparrow was born from the combination of two ideas that sit at the core of how we approach design: spark and arrow.
The spark is that first flicker of an idea. The moment creativity ignites before it has been fully defined. It is curiosity, imagination, and possibility.
The arrow represents direction. It is purpose, focus, and the discipline to carry an idea forward until it becomes something real.
Together, those two concepts became Sparrow. For us, it reflects the balance between creative exploration and thoughtful execution.
We give ideas room to emerge, then refine them with clarity, purpose, and intention.
The symbolism of the sparrow itself also reflects who we are as a studio. Sparrows are adaptable, resilient, and remarkably resourceful. They thrive in many different environments and are small enough to be nimble, yet strong enough to endure.
As a boutique studio, those qualities resonated with us. We wanted a name that reflected creativity, but also responsiveness, agility, and a genuine connection to people.

With more than 40 years of experience, Dawn has shaped hospitality, restaurant and experience driven environments through an approach that balances creative intuition with strategy and operational understanding.
She believes memorable design begins with understanding people: why they come, what makes them stay, and what brings them back.
That perspective guides her work from the earliest idea through realization, with a particular instinct for knowing where investment creates impact and where restraint makes a space more powerful.
As Creative Director and Founding Principal, Dawn sets the creative vision for Sparrow Studio while remaining closely engaged in the work, the clients and the experiences the studio creates.

PAOLA RUBIO
ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL
With more than 10 years of experience, Paola brings an entrepreneurial spirit and an international perspective to Sparrow Studio. Having begun her career in Mexico before continuing her work in Houston, her approach is shaped by a curiosity about culture, material and the different ways people experience place.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, she brings an openness to different perspectives and a strength for translating ideas into clear design direction.
Her experience across commercial and residential interiors, independent practice and project leadership gives her an understanding of both the creative process and the relationships required to move a project from concept through execution.
As Associate Principal, Paola works alongside Dawn in the creative and project leadership of the studio, helping shape both the work Sparrow creates and the way it is delivered.

MONIQUE LUENING
SENIOR INTERIOR DESIGNER
With more than 13 years of experience, Monique brings strong creative leadership, an artist’s eye and technical depth to Sparrow Studio.
With deep experience in hospitality design, she plays an integral role in establishing the creative direction of our projects and shaping that vision from the earliest ideas through realization.
Her instinct for material, color, texture, FF&E and custom details is balanced by an understanding of how those ideas must come together to create a cohesive and memorable experience.
As Senior Interior Designer, Monique is a key voice in the studio’s design leadership, working closely with Dawn and Paola to shape concepts, challenge ideas and guide the creative decisions that define the work.
